Virabhadra Yoga was founded by Jim Schweitzer, RYT. Jim practices the Iyengar style. Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga based on giving primacy to the physical alignment of the body in each posture. While Iyengar Yoga is not as intensely cardiovascular as other forms of yoga, it builds strength, stamina, and flexibility. It is an excellent form of yoga for people who are new to yoga, and for people who are ill, elderly, or overweight. However, it can also be a very demanding practice for experienced yogis who wish to work on specific points of their alignment and deeper versions of asanas. Students who are meticulous, technical, or have an interest in anatomy and an appreciation of subtle movements in the body may also enjoy an Iyengar-style practice. Through breath work and final relaxation, which are incorporated into our classes, will leave feeling energized and at the same time, calm and relaxed.
